Potential detectors are recommended to be tested annually or if any work has been completed on the tester or if damage is suspected.
There are a wide variety of potential detectors on the market ranging from different manufacturers and voltage application. It is important to do your research on what attachments and application the tester is good for before purchasing.
Cleaning is not typically required due to the nature of use of the potential detectors. However if debris and dirt need to be removed it will be completed with isopropyl alcohol. New batteries are installed upon every test.
Potential testers are always inspected for mechanical damage.
All potential detectors are tested with alternating current at 60Hz and typically tested several times at different voltages in their respective voltage range for proof of accuracy.
Potential detectors typically fail visual inspection if they have been dropped and will not turn on or fail electrically when it does not meet the tolerance criteria of the test.
Potential detectors come in plastic cases and if they don't it is recommended it is stored inside a hard case keeping it away from damage when it is not in use.
