Electrical Testing of category A & B aerial devices are tested in compliance with CSA C225-10 and is required to be tested annually.
If it has an insulated fiberglass boom it can be tested. Common manufactures of aerial devices are Terex, Altec and Versalift.
The insulating booms are cleaned with alcohol if required to remove dirt and debris and polished with wax wipe cloth to maintain hydrophobic surface.
Upper and lower boom are inspected for scratches, chips and larger damage that could cause water ingress into the fiberglass.
Depending on the unit rating of the Aerial Device the insulating section is tested subject to 46kV ro 660kV AC and to pass is limited to a corresponding leakage in current.
Bucket Liners are removed and tested at 35kV AC for 1 minute.
Hydraulic oil also tested to ASTM D877 or D1816 depending on the clients requirements
Typical failures for category A & B aerial devices are bucket liner failures, hydraulic oil and damaged meter receptacles.
