FR clothing included in a ARC Flash kit does not need to be tested. However, industry best practice is to maintain the FR clothing. This can be done with annual washing programs and inspections of the FR clothing for damage.
ARC Flash Equipment is typically sold as a kit. Including:
Head Protection (Helmet and Visor with Neck covering)
Garments ( Coveralls, Jackets, Pants)
Gloves (High Voltage Gloves)
Foot protection (Insulated Rubber boots)
The temperature of an arc flash can reach 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit – which is up to four times hotter than the sun. This means workers in potential arc flash environments need specialized personal protection equipment (PPE).
FR Clothing is visually inspected for damage, cuts, oils, etc. and is then washed in cold water with a mild detergent to remove any dirt and debris.
Typically FR clothing over time will wear down and produce holes at which time the FR clothing should be retired and new FR clothing purchased.
Store your arc flash or FR clothing in a dry environment. Free from moisture, excessive heat, or any chemicals that could deteriorate the life of your PPE.
